    Xala - the mysterious instrument

    Xala is a unique instrument.  It’s so rare there is only one of them worldwide.  It was created from a concept by Swiss musician Ania Losinger.

    At six and a half feet and 880 pounds Xala can best be described as a kind of over-sized xylophone. 

    Losinger can create musical sounds while dancing on the 24 wooden palettes in her flamenco shoes.  In each hand she holds a long baton-like pole.  The result is a unique performance art, something between dance and music - floating from sound to rhythm and back.

    Together with her partner Matthias Eser, Losinger published a CD entitled “The Five Elements”.  Using the Marimbafon (another xylophone-similar instrument) the duo create a magical and opulent music experience.
