Living in high altitude is healthy
Posted by Cecilia under: Health .
People have long believed that living at high altitude is healthy.
Researchers at the University of Zurich in Switzerland recently published a study that backs up those beliefs with facts.
According to the study every 1,000 meters (3280 feet) of altitude reduces the risk of heart attack by about 22% and the risk of a stroke by about 12%.
Researchers explained that high altitude living has a protective effect on heart and blood vessels. It’s the combined effect of solar radiation, the quality of air and the adaptation of the body to the special oxygen content of the air.
There’s also some bad news: to receive the health benefits you need to stay longer than just a two-week ski vacation.
