Who invented bonsai art?
Posted by Cecilia under: Art; Culture; Nature .
Bonsai art is not only about pruning small trees. Pruning is in fact just one small part of the art of bonsai with the goal of shaping trees into aesthetic images and sculptures.
When did bonsai art start and who was its inventor?
Bonsai art started in China almost 2,000 years ago. The Chinese masters called it pun-sai and often passed down bonsai skill to their sons.
During the 12th century bonsai art was carried to Japan where it was elevated to a state of perfection.
The earliest Chinese legends reveal that in the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A.D.) an emperor created a vast landscape in his garden representing his entire empire so that he could look upon it from his windows.
This landscape contained hills, valleys, rivers, lakes and most of all trees fashioned into artistic shape by pruning.
Present day bonsai artists have continued this tradition, expanding the art in new and beautiful ways.

People who understands bonsai knows that practices of wiring is used not to bind the tree and restrict growth, as is sometimes imagined, but to redirect growth.
